Hello all!

This week we will be speaking with Brad Richardson and Belinda Creighton-Smith from the Disproportionate Minority Confinement Resource Center. We will be discussing the disproportionate incarceration of non-white youths in Iowa and what DMC is doing to change this- and how you can get involved. The statistics are shocking. For example, regarding racial injustice did you know that Iowa is one of the worst places you can live if you are African American? Or that, even though African Americans only make up 3% of the Iowa state population, African American youths are 6.5 more likely to be incarcerated for the same crime as committed by white kids? Please join us and hear some facts that will startle you- and hopefully move you into action.

Hello All-

Wednesday, we will be chatting with Kyle Sieck and company from the UI Environmental Coalition. This group came on as my first guest at the beginning of the semester. It was a great show, but it was also the same day of a huge snow storm, and I don't know how many listeners were able to receive the show as the KRUI antennae tends to freeze up on those occasions and limits our broadcasting ability. And what's more, environmental issues are a major concern to anyone who's been paying attention to the ever-worsening condition of our planet; ideas on how to make a real change are more important than ever.
